"Nothing great was ever achieved without enthusiasm" - Ralph Waldo Emerson The UPstart team is a group of individuals dedicated to supporting technology commercialization within the Penn community. Since 2010, UPstart at the University of Pennsylvania has worked with nearly 100 faculty and staff members to form and launch new companies based on selected inventions and innovative technologies. After just two years, UPstart supports 50 active companies, over half of which are paired with entrepreneurs. Altogether, these companies have obtained $7.5 million in funding. UPSTART at the University of Pennsylvania strives to maximize the potential of Penn research to the benefit of the university, the investigative team, and society in general through the creation and stimulus of entrepreneurial endeavors. While there are many paths to commercialization of a new technology, the UPSTART team works with Penn faculty, staff and students to develop a strategy around company formation as a means to increase the value of the technology while giving it exposure in the marketplace. We are committed to assisting the development team through the entire commercialization process and will provide an array of services along the way.
